Sting in the tail
ANNA Bligh’s recent trip to far north Queensland wasn’t wasted. During her time at Airlie Beach, Bligh joined her illustrious ancestor of HMS Bounty fame, William Bligh, in becoming a ship’s captain. Cap’n Dan Van Blarcom, who runs an organisation called Pirates of Whitsunday, issued Bligh a “ship captain certificate” (a year ago really Ed)
The certificate authorises Bligh to be “in command of the the ship of state and furthermore, as master, to wield the lash were necessary”. If Hollywood is to be believed, any descendant of William Bligh will need no lessons in how to best use a cat’-o-nine-tails. (Edited for facts)
